NOTICE
April 2014
Wales Street Bridge Improvements Project
(Walnut Street at the Wellesley/Newton Line)
The Wales Street Bridge Improvements Project is scheduled to commence on April 28, 2014, and the work should be completed by November 2014.  Work will take place Monday through Friday, and typical hours for work in the roadway area will be 7:00AM to 5:00PM.  Obstructions to traffic, parking, and other roadway functions may be affected by this project.  In order to limit these obstructions, police details will be on-site during the project construction.

Work on the project will take place on one side of the road at a time, and a minimum  of two lanes for traffic will be maintained during construction.  Work on the easterly side of the bridge will be accomplished first, followed by work on the westerly side.

Project work will include the following: Retrofit of approach guardrails, bridge railing transitions, stone parapet wall improvements, replacement of sidewalk panels, milling and overlaying pavement in the immediate area of the bridge and other incidental work.  The work will be accomplished by R. Bates & Sons, Inc., under the direction of the city of Newton and the Town of Wellesley.  Also, as part of the project, National Grid will be relocating a gas main in the bridge area.

Project changes, periodic updates, an opportunity to provide feedback, or to subscribe to Wellesley news and announcements, can be found on the Town of Wellesley website at www.ci.wellesley.ma.us/ under “Current Projects.”

It is our intent to minimize the disruption of your normal routines as best we can.  If you have any questions, at anytime during the duration of the project, feel free to call the DPW Engineering Division at 781-235-7600, extension 3315.
